Haunting Her is an interactive horror web experience that reclaims queer female representation in horror by using the genre’s own shadows fear, satire, and unease to confront its history of erasure and imagine liberated, powerful sapphic narratives. Through nonlinear storytelling and digital interactivity, it transforms horror into a space where queerness is no longer punished but hauntingly free.

Abstract
Haunting Her is an interactive horror web experience that reclaims and reimagines queer female representation in a genre that has long villainized sapphic desire. From the censorship of the Hays Code (1930-1968) to lingering tropes in modern horror, queer women have often been portrayed as tragic, monstrous, or erased entirely. Horror's discomfort: its fear, shadows, unease, and satire become the language this project uses to confront that legacy.
Named for how these tropes continue to haunt queer women, Haunting Her is divided into three parts: original short stories that deconstruct harmful tropes; an interactive historical section demonstrating how queer female characters were discarded and their potential erased—while also imagining what horror could be without that erasure; and a speculative storytelling experience that envisions proper, liberated queer representation. Inspired by films like Scream 5 and Jennifer's Body, the project uses horror not just as critique, but also as empowerment.
Through non-linear, web-based storytelling, Haunting Her emphasizes how digital platforms free from traditional censorship and shaped by accessibility and interactivity offer new space for authentic, subversive narratives. It invites the audience to explore a horror where queerness is not hidden or punished, but powerful, visible, and hauntingly free.
