This course provides students with conceptual tools and critical methods for an advanced study in media theory. Each semester, we will focus on a single book or thinker, engaging in slow, thoughtful reading. The course will introduce key concepts, examining their implications for media, technology, art, and expression. Through close reading and discussion students will learn how to approach dense theoretical texts and develop their own ways of engaging with complex ideas. For the final project, students will develop their own research papers or creative projects, which will culminate in a collective project (such as a website or installation) that assembles students’ theoretically informed practices born from the semester’s conceptual journey.
