Hua Xi Zi “Cecilia” is an artist and researcher working across image production, performance, and network infrastructures. xi zi cares for perspectives floating between systems of tactics, technologies, knowledge, and aesthetics—specifically shaped by the different geopolitical and socio-technological structures between China and the U.S. She examines how literacy, agency, and control are distributed in situated environments, and observes how affect and memory flow between individuals and coordinated publics. She previously taught the course “Net Art and Virtuality” at East China Normal University. xi zi received her MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and BA from University of Southern California; she is also an alumna of the School for Poetic Computation.
