IMA Spotlight: Meeting Sebastian!

Sebastian is a senior student in IMA. He has been actively participating in our IMA community and you've probably have seen some community improvement projects he had participated in around the fab lab. Today he will be sharing with us more about himself and what is it look like to be a lab assistant.

Where are you from?

I'm from Hefei, Anhui Province.

When did you start working as an IMA Lab Assistant?

I actually began working as a lab assistant just this past summer. Then Dalin invited me to continue this semester. I thought it was a great opportunity, so I took it.

What do you like about this position?

What attracts me most about this job is that, first of all, I can become really familiar with all the fabrication machines and wood shop equipment. Also, I get to work with professors and the lab manager Dalin, and make friends with other students. This is especially meaningful for me since I just changed my major to IMA last semester.

Is there anything you'd like to share with us? Maybe a fun fact?

I actually finalized my major as IMA last semester. I wanted to make the most of NYUSH's freedom in choosing majors. So, before settling on IMA, which was the major I was interested in when I applied to NYUSH, I explored various majors like IMB, Business, Biology, and Data Science. A funny thing is that I switched to the Data Science major in the first semester of my junior year. But after taking several intense math classes in Data Science, I realized it wasn't a great fit for me. Then, after taking a few IMA classes in the second semester of my junior year, I knew that IMA is the best choice for me and where my passion truly lies.
