Abstract

Taking a human-centered design approach, this project aims to design a product that can effectively remind elderly people to perform their daily tasks. In the initial stage, through desk research, I learned about the memory problems related to elderly people. I found that memory decline is a common issue among the elderly, and due to the decline in other abilities, the negative impact of memory deterioration on them is more significant. Subsequently, I conducted interview research. My interview subjects all had basic abilities to use technology products and could learn to use them independently. Additionally, the conclusions from my previous desk research were reinforced and further deepened: I found that elderly people tend to forget regular tasks like "taking medicine", occasional tasks like "turning off the stove in time". Also, they tend to forget taking things with them and forget whether they have done tasks before leaving house, so they have to go back home again to examine everything. Based on these findings, I believe there are opportunities to develop a project that addresses these issues - designing a product that can remind elderly people to complete both regular and spontaneous tasks in a timely and accurate manner, thus ensuring their safety in daily life.
