This talk, organised by the Center for AI and Culture, explores how divination practices can be reimagined as embodied interfaces for generative AI, offering an alternative to conventional prompt-based interactions. Mexican-born, Berlin-based artist and technologist Moisés Horta Valenzuela will present SEMILLA.AI, a performance instrument translating Mesoamerican maize seed-casting divination into an interface for navigating generative AI sound synthesis. SEMILLA.AI is presented as an alternative interaction ontology to dominant prompt-input/output paradigms: a culturally situated approach to epistemologies of contingency and interpretation, and an argument for culturally differentiated approaches to AI interface design.
