Suzhou Art Festival poster

This talk will introduce the Guli-Hongdou Art Festival and MAGESPACE’s works, including digital projects that tell stories from Suzhou and art that combines the humanities with technology. MAGESPACE is a key contributor to the Guli-Hongdou Art Festival, blending Suzhou’s traditional culture with modern digital media art. The festival focuses on promoting digital media art, preserving traditional crafts, and organizing conferences to help artists and craftsmen work together. MAGESPACE’s projects are prime examples, offering new ways to understand history and culture.

This talk will explain MAGESPACE’s contribution to the festival and how they create their projects. It’s an excellent opportunity for students to participate in an art festival and showcase their works.

MAGESPACE is an artist group founded by Hao (Villo) Jiang, Chenxu Zhao, and Qifan Yu. It focuses on the site-specific culture and the expression of contemporary art. MAGESPACE’s works are not limited to the materials and media. They embraced new technology with associative academic research. Their works bring more possibilities for digital media arts, including the use of visual and auditory presentations, AI-generated content, and performance arts. MAGESPACE’s works have been exhibited in Shanghai, Suzhou, Arizona, and other places. They have been selected for the “Young Artist Project” at Three Shadow Contemporary Photography Center in 2023. Their creative philosophy—“what you see is what you dream”—encapsulates their approach to bringing visions to reality through digital means.
